:S There is so little available in Green Island. It seems to me that if Green Island Supported its\' own that we\'d be a better community. It seems that a small business does not stand a chance here. If you don\'t have big bucks or the right name then you are out of luck . 9 months in business and people from Green Island ask \"How long have you been here?\" or say \" I\'m coming back here\" and are not to be seen again. That\'s providing they come in to say anything at all. During that same time frame , the 1 and only pizza joint has changed hands 3 times. The village is big enough to support local businesses but doesn\'t appear to. What is up with that?

Beader, I highly agree with you. Green Island does not support anyone that is not \"family\" or if they don\'t have political ties. You need to carry the Mc*ulty name to get anywhere around here or have the \"rules\" broken for you. As you can see, business are tanking around here. The only pizza place in the village is once again under new ownership as you said. It is very ridiculous that this occurs on such a high basis. I would love to support anyone in Green Island that has a business...matter of fact I would be willing to go out on a string an advertise them on this site for FREE or even build them a FREE site just to help them out in this tough economy. It\'s sad that you cannot get anywhere or support without \"Village ties.\"

In one respect I have to disagree with you. The Mayor has helped me out. She is the only one I can defend other than the people that I rent from.

Understandable. Any mayor will help a \"new\" business...But how long will it last? Does she still help out? Stop by? Lend some valuable info? From a personal standpoint, I\'ve been in the village for over 20 years and seen some very political things occur. I believe it\'s just gotten to the point where the people who live here want to get away therefore they don\'t support local business.

Ok, I will concede on those grounds. Perhaps \"small \" is the key word here. Small business doesn\'t bring in Big bucks to the village. I know that being politically connected gets you more. I know you must have money to make money, otherwise you do not mean much around here. I hate that Geen Island is beginning to look alot like Troy. It\'s bad that little girls come running in because a strange man is following them. Where else are kids going to go? There are some that visit with me just to have a safe and quiet place to go. I\'m going off on a tangent and I apologize but small business is small town and all of the great things that go with that life. No small businesses in a small town is a bit backwards.

I agree 100%. It\'s very unfortunate that we our turning into Troy of all places :(. And yes, there are some people in Green Island that appear in stature of \"feeding on younger people.\" I\'ve seen some younger kids being approached by older people which is quite creepy. There is constant fights and parties going on all over. The village needs an entire restructuring starting with the people who run it in hopes that small businesses can succeed. I know you run your own business Beadery on George Street and I wish you nothing but the best of luck in succeeding in these tough times. Its very unfortunate that you need money to make money here and in other small villages. Let me know if our site can do anything at all to help :cheer: . I realize this site is just starting out and there is not many members yet, but hopefully it will grow over time and we can help small businesses. Feel free to post some of your items or an advertisement in our for sale section! As people join the site they will be able to see it in the for sale section. If you would like and think its a good idea, I can create a \"Business Sale Section\" on the forum strictly for small businesses either in the for sale forum or even on the main page....I pondered having a \"Business\" page off the main site where small businesses could send in advertisements and get them posted for free...

Hey Greekcom, I\'m back from vacation buddy. That\'s a nice gesture you made to assist small businesses. Anyway, I agree with what the both of you stated, this is a tough village to get support from the community in. I\'ve seen so many businesses struggle and change ownership. Beader, Hope your business does well too.

Hello All, just joined the site tonight. I have been a resident and lived in GI most of my life with the exception of the years I was in the military and years I escaped to live in Florida. Growing up in GI was definately different back in the 70s, 80s and early 90s. This community was so tightly nitted. But as you all see being a current business in GI is not like being a business here 20 years ago. When I moved back in 2003 I use to do FREE computer repair work for family and friends and built up a good size customer list then decided to make it official and work out of my house with no office but charging for my services. I would make house calls instead of having the customer lug the cpu to me, so my actual office was my computer and my cell phone. So I decided to make it official and got all the paperwork, EIN, tax numbers, etc, only to be notified by the Village and Town of GI that my special use permit to use my computer and my cell phone as my office was denied. Now doesnt that show support for a local small business. I wish any businees in GI the best of luck and if you live in GI and run that business you better vote the right row.

It's sad to say but it's very true. That's crazy that they denied you a permit just cause your trying to make a living...although I put nothing past them these days.

I agree on all of these grounds. I hate that I have to leave GI just to get a quart of milk or a 2-liter of soda... That new convenience store near George and Arch has had a "Coming Soon" sign on it since September/October...The mayor even spoke of it in her letter twice...and here we are almost March, and still nothing... I must say that I had better thoughts of GI before actually moving here (I used to live/work in Albany, now work in Troy, live in GI). I do not feel as though the people in this community are friendly/welcoming. The only thing I have managed to learn is the "parking war" which I was hoping to have gotten away from after leaving Albany, but apparently not...

Honestly, I do not think that store is ever going to open and it's most likely the Village that is holding it up.

Well it is sad to say but some things never change. The store is still coming soon.My shop had to close for the winter months because it could not support paying rent and heat. Now my space is going up for rent.If it is rented ,I will be moved to the back onto Paine Street. If people did not know I was located on George then they will never know I have been moved to Paine. My shop it seems is about to become a statistic on the lists of closed businesses that could not survive in Green Island.I will keep you posted on my shops' status but it does not bode well for me.Thank you for the support this site has shown.I do appreciate it.

Sorry to hear that. Honestly, it must be extremely tough owning your own business and all the daily operations needed to keep afloat. If your shop does move, please feel free to send us your updated information such as address change so we may update our records.

Thank you and we wish you the best of luck!
