I have a 11 year old son that loves nothing more then getting on his bike and riding to the park to see what the other kids are up to now that its summer vacation, Well the Green Island Police are not checking on these kids that are hanging around these parks at all! Last week my son went to the tennis court under the bridge with his cousin, and while they were just riding past a couple of teenagers came running after him and his cousin hitting them and yelling at them, the little girl that was with him got so scared she took off on her bike and came home with my son on her tail, Its sick that these kids are using these parks as a local hang outs and actually the kids that chased them were not even from green island, so my biggest complaint is now that summer is here, do i have to walk and sit at the park with my son so he can play when i thought the police were there to watch for crap like this here in Green Island, I know the police cant babysit these kids but i think if the police started to stop the older kids and ask them where they lived them maybe they would be a little more scared to hang out in green island,I have seen the park where the kids play basketball on george street under the bridge looking like troy where there are kids that are just hanging around causing trouble, and this also goes along with the other post i read on here about cars getting broken into and parties all night,Someone needs to tighten up around here because it will only take it to get out of control before it turns into Troy where the cops cant do anything anymore to clean it up!

Unfortunately the police only care about one thing. THE GREEN ISLAND / TROY BRIDGE. The just love to sit there and give tickets to people for going 2mph over. Green Island Parks are basically falling apart and the bridge is a joke. Looks like it belongs in Brooklyn, not a small village. The police tend to ignore the important items and go after the easy non important issues. A few weeks ago around midnight, a care was parked directly in the road (basically double parked) and no one was in the vehicle and it was off. A cop came up right by it and never did anything. The car sat in the road till 3am then some drunk guy got in a drove away. I could not believe my eyes. These cops give tickets for double parking while in the car. This car sat unattended four hours. Back to the park issue. There are people hired to work there which should monitor these kids, but they have been handed these jobs because they are friends with the mayor so they could care less about their jobs.

The park is definitely looking shabby over the years...It use to be a place where everyone went over the summer and even fall to play basketball games and gather...now, its...well, nothing.

I personally think that the fact that you are not able to have your dog with you in ANY of the parks is unfair. I am a responsible citizen who cleans up after my dog, makes sure that she is under my control at times, and is properly licensed and vaccinated. And instead of her being able to run and romp in appropriate settings, she is confined to a life on the leash... So perhaps if more people wanted to frequent parks with all of their family members (canine included) there would be more sets of eyes in the parks to be able to help prevent things like the above happnening. Just posting a sign saying "for residents only" isn't going to keep non-residents out, and really what does a sign like that say about a community...It doesn't make a community seem warm or welcoming that's for sure...

You are SOOO wrong with your assumptions, my friend. I lived in GI for over 20 years. I still have family there. There's little one can do about the fact that the community is small and the mayor is likely to know everyone but that doesn't mean the jobs are given only to political friends--just those in the community who apply and are qualified for the jobs. They give the kids great opportunities to grow and learn and make life-long connections. Perhaps if you had a kid instead of a dog you'd have a better attitude about things!! Just a thought, friend.

Good point but everyone will view things differently around here. I'm perfectly fine with them as long as they treat everyone equally, but at times, that does not appear to happen and that's what aggravates me the most along with many others. We once called the cops and they basically never showed up. It took 2 more calls and about 1 hour later and a cop finally showed up...now that's just plain ridiculous! Biggest problems is 99% of the cops are all new P/T cops who were fired from other forces because...well you get the point.
